It appears that QTEL are now periodically performing
deep-packet-inspection (DPI) where they look inside the data stream and
identify the protocols being used.

This is different to the original problem where they simply blocked port
25. The use of DPI means they will detect and block all SMTP (mail)
traffic.

I've just implemented SSL tunnels between my server in Amsterdam and the
mailserver here. This allows me to encrypt all traffic thereby making it
impossible for QTEL to eavesdrop on my communications.

You need to ask your provider if they can do SSL for mail - so that the
HELO, EHLO messages etc. in the data streams are not visible to QTEL. I
use stunnel for this purpose.

Hope this helps,

I'm happy to meet up for a coffee and chat if you like - there are many
ways of working around the issue depending on your systems so you don't
have to pay to use the stupidly-expensive QTEL MPLS service for email.

Dear Mr. Fletcher
I have googled regarding email problem of Q-Tel and then I have found this nice site. Our problem is Q-Tel is blocking our outgoing mail frequently like once in a month and it opens after 2-3 days but webmail is working continuously. We are using mail server of our web hosting provider and port is 26. Can u please suggest, how to get rid of from this issue.
Thank you very much.

Bloody morrons, I had the same issue for months and had to overcome it using a VPN to the office where we have a 32Mb/s line (I don't even want to say how much we are paying for it). Now it seems they are blocking IKE/ISAKMP as well cause I cannot go through their crappy network inside or outside Qatar using IPSec (Wireshark doesn't see a single packet). Anyone else struggling with that?

Andy,

I share with you the same thoughts and I understand if you feel shame and angry.

If you did once this time I felt this all the time and through all the years.

I grew up in this shame and anger…I grew up when thousands of people been killed in Palestine…I grew up when thousands of people turned homeless…I grew up when thousands of innocent children born in wars and been killed…… and I grew up when I start to see the faces of innocent children looking for a home to hide, searching for a place to be safe, for a mother and father to protect them, searching for water to drink or food eat, for a hospital to take care of them or medication to treat them, or to go to school to study….nothing is there?!! The truth they grow up in empty streets, destroyed houses, they grew up with no parents no brothers no sisters no relatives no water no food no schools no hospitals…… and they grew up in a place where they are not even allowed to scream for HELP JUST TO LIVE AND NOT TO BE A TERRORIST !!

As a person whom belongs to the Arab community we felt ashamed through the years, since the law becomes a law of one state! This is the State of Israel. What you called the deliberate cruelty of the Israeli state to Gaza and other places doesn’t not surprise me anymore because simply it is becoming something ordinary for the majority of people in the world….and this is big ugly truth.

What surprises me the most are when the state of Israel – which was a state in itself by breaking the international laws and stealing land from the native people whom now called terrorists- claimed that unarmed people are "terrorists" and when politicians say “I am shocked” of what has happened in Gaza (or I mean in the international water) without expressing any act of condemnation towards the State of Isreal… and this is another ugly reality.

we have grown to know what is right and what is wrong.

Thanks for the information, we are having intermittent problems with outgoing SMTP port 25 blocked and I dont know if it is Qtel or outside.

It seems to come and go, and I was wondering if you have any advice on how to change the port. Our mail server is in US and I have asked them if we can access with another port.

thanks

Andy I am trying to contact you via email, but the ISP in Milan I use sometimes rejects emails I send, so maybe this will work. I wanted to speak to you about your experience about inbuilding planning for PMR systems and Heathrow with Siemens
Hope to speak to you soon,
cheers Richard Clark
