Why is this site called X31.COM?

In January 2000 I was looking for a good domain name to use as a home domain and I discovered that all the 2 letter and 3 letter domains had been used up. The only 3 character domain names available had at least one digit in them so I started looking for a domain with good number. Surprise, all the simple ones had already gone so I tried to be clever and came up with X31. Hex 31 is the ASCII character 1 which is the closest I will ever get to being number one on the Internet.

In the C programming language this can be expressed as:

main()
{
putchar(0×31);
}

So there you are, a bit geeky but it is a domain name and it is mine!
